ENSP photo workshops

The ENSP offers photo workshops with Aurore Valade. The practical and technical workshops propose an introduction to photography alongside theoretical and historical considerations. The work produced over the year will be brought together in a group presentation. These courses are in French.

The ENSP propose two groups for the 2024-2025 session:

Beginner Course | Switching to manual mode

Getting started with the digital camera and discovering the technical and artistic possibilities of photography.

5 intensive days – 1 session of your choice:
→ from Wednesday 30 October to Sunday 3 November 2024
→ from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 May 2025

This workshop is for anyone who wants to learn about photography, and offers support for those who want to get to grips with a digital camera by practising shooting on a variety of themes.

→ Prerequisites: No prior photographic knowledge is required. The trainee is invited to come with a digital camera that allows working in manual mode. The loan of a camera by the school is possible on request. It’s important to have your camera’s instruction manual to hand during the course and to start identifying the various buttons and knobs that we’ll be learning to select together.

→ Aims: By tackling technical and theoretical concepts followed by practical exercises, the workshop aims initially to make people self-sufficient in handling the camera. A variety of shooting situations and the discovery of inspiring photographers will enable participants to explore different aesthetic languages so that they can discover their own photographic sensibility.

→ Programme : The sessions are organised around a theoretical part (auditorium or study room) and practical exercises (studio, common areas of the school or outside).

The intensive course is open to anyone over the age of 18.

Number of participants: maximum 16

Advanced Group | Exploring photographic languages

One Saturday per month from November 20214 to June 2025 at the school.

This workshop is for people who want to share their experience with a group around common themes to build a coherent photographic series and develop their creativity by exploring the diversity of photographic languages.

→ Prerequisites: mastery of the basic principles of shooting in manual mode or ability to make progress on getting to grips with one’s camera independently. Knowledge, even basic, of image processing software and/or ability to adapt to the computer world.

→ Aims: Based around common shooting themes, trainees will be invited to develop their photographic writing.  The aim will be to explore new languages and themes, and around the delicate stage of editing, to learn how to sort, combine and retouch their images, in order to make them interact in a coherent way.

→ Programme : Shooting sessions (studio and outdoor) are combined with image processing workshops in the computer graphics room (Lightroom software) and time for critical reading of images (auditorium or study room).

The school’s resources – auditorium, workrooms, studio and library – will be made available for the workshops.

The workshops are open to anyone over the age of 18.

Number of participants: maximum 20
