Gilles Saussier
Gilles Saussier has been teaching at the ENSP since 2013. He is the coordinator of the Mentorship programme and the Master’s Diploma through Validation of Acquired Experience (VAE).
Close to site-specific artistic practices – as defined by the art historian Hal Forster (recovering repressed histories, activating lost cultural spaces, proposing historical counter-memories) – he is particularly interested in the challenges of contemporary documentary practices and photographic narratives of territory.
Gilles Saussier has published his main books with Le Point du Jour: Studio Shakhari bazar (2006), Le Tableau de chasse (2010), Spolia (2018). He participated in documenta 11 in Kassel (2002), in the exhibitions Des Territoires at the ENSBA Paris (2001), Covering the real at the Kunstmuseum Basel (2005), L’archive universelle. La condition du document et l’utopie photographique moderne at the MACBA in Barcelona (2008), The image of war at the Bonniers Konsthall in Stockholm (2017). Among his texts on the documentary question: Situations du reportage, actualité d’une alternative documentaire (Communications n°71, Seuil-EHESS, 2001), Retourner l’actualité, Photojournalisme et art contemporain (Maison Rouge – Éditions des Archives contemporaines, 2008), Le documentaire expérimental (Artpress: La photographie post-documentaire, 2016) Le display, un art du moindre geste (Faire étalage, displays et autres dispositifs d’exposition, ESBAN 2019).
